Applications for 2021 Canada Summer Jobs Program Open Monday

Published on
December 17, 2020

Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Carla Qualtrough announced that applications for an expanded 2021 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program will open on Monday, December 21 and remain open until January 29, 2021.

CSJ provides paid employment opportunities for young people between the ages of 15 and 30 to develop and improve their skills in the not-for-profit, small business and public sectors.

For 2021, 120,000 positions will be supported through the CSJ, up from 80,000 in 2020. The government is also extending the temporary flexibilities included in CSJ 2020 through this coming year. These changes include:

  • a wage subsidy, so that private and public-sector employers can receive up to 75 percent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for each employee (not-for-profit organizations will continue to receive 100 percent);
  • an extension to the end date for employment to February 26, 2022; and
  • allowing employers to hire staff on a part-time basis.

Applications are made through the employer’s Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) account. If your business or organization does not have a GCOS account, register here.
