Today in Question Period, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland announced that the Federal Budget will be introduced on Monday, April 19. This will be the first Budget by the Trudeau government in over two years, after COVID-19 lead to the cancellation of a 2020 Budget.
The federal government has committed to spend $70-$100 billion (3-4% of GDP) over the next three years to help stimulate Canada’s economic recovery from the pandemic. Much of this spending is expected to be detailed in Budget 2021. This Budget is also expected to be the foundation for the Liberal election platform in the anticipated 2021 federal election.
