Sussex congratulates our longstanding client, the Ontario Pharmacists Association, on receiving regulatory approval to administer 13 new vaccines, including travel vaccines, from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
The announcement, made on December 1st in a Toronto pharmacy by Health and Long Term Care Minister Eric Hoskins, marks another milestone for the province’s pharmacists in their efforts to expand their scope of practice. Building on the strength of the flu shot in pharmacy program, which was approved in 2012, the Ontario government has acknowledged that these highly trained, highly skilled health professionals are capable of offering more to the health system. They are community based, readily accessible, trusted by patients, and have proven through the flu shot program that they do indeed provide safe, convenient and cost effective health care.
Sussex has had the pleasure of working with the Association for several years on these and other matters. We were proud to play an active role in helping the OPA secure approval for the flu shot program and to lend a hand for this most recent achievement. Our work with the OPA continues; we are fortunate to work with them on such worthy initiatives that are good for them as clients; good healthcare for patients; and create meaningful, progressive steps for the government to take for the good of its citizens. In this regard, the OPA’s objectives align nicely with the guiding philosophy that our consultants prefer to apply to client files when presenting an issue to government: Good policy. Good politics. Good business.
