Yesterday, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released a report entitled Decarbonization and Ontario’s Electricity Sector: Assessing the Impacts of Phasing Out Natural Gas Generation by 2030. Amid growing interest in the feasibility for deeper decarbonization, the IESO undertook to analyze the technical, operational, and financial considerations of a hypothetical implementation.

After a longer than originally scheduled summer recess, theOntario Legislature officially returned this morning, opening the second session of the 42nd Parliament with a Speech From The Throne. The Speech, delivered by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell, provided a glimpse of the Ford government’s priorities in this legislative session that will lead up to the June 2022 election. Supporting and protecting Ontarians through these next stages of the pandemic remains the government’s focus, with recovery through strong economic growth standing as an accompanying priority.

Mary Simon became Canada’s 30th Governor General today - and first of Indigenous heritage - following her swearing in at a ceremony held in the Senate Chamber in Ottawa. The position became vacant in January, 2021, upon the resignation of Julie Payette, who served only three years of her term before stepping down amidst numerous accusations of a toxic workplace at Rideau Hall.
