Bringing Strategic Leadership and Energy Expertise to Atlantic Canada

Sussex Strategy Group, one of Canada's leading government affairs firms, is excited to announce the appointment of Andrew Parsons as Senior Counsel. A former senior cabinet minister in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew brings deep expertise in energy, public policy, and legislative strategy to Sussex, further advancing the firm's growing presence and capabilities across Canada.

This appointment builds on the recent addition of Mike Holland as Vice President, Atlantic Canada, and further strengthens Sussex's nationally recognized energy practice. With Andrew's arrival, we're deepening our ability to help clients shape and respond to complex energy and policy issues across Canada.

“Andrew’s deep understanding of Atlantic Canada’s policy landscape, his track record of legislative success, and his experience navigating complex files make him a tremendous asset to our clients,” says Chris Benedetti, Managing Partner at Sussex Strategy Group. “His arrival strengthens our energy practice at a critical time, as we continue helping clients navigate the evolving policy, regulatory, and investment landscape shaping Canada’s energy future.”

Andrew served as the elected Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for Burgeo-LaPoile for 14 years, where he held several high-profile roles, including Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Attorney General, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, and Government House Leader. His leadership played a pivotal role in modernizing Newfoundland and Labrador’s energy frameworks, supporting innovation, and driving collaborative economic development efforts.

“I am excited to join the accomplished team at Sussex Strategy Group, where I look forward to leveraging my experience across multiple cabinet portfolios and years of high-stakes decision-making in government. Today’s business landscape is shaped by rapidly changing policies, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder expectations," says Andrew Parsons. "My background gives me unique insight into how government decisions impact business strategy, risk, and opportunity. I am eager to partner with Sussex’s clients to help them navigate these complexities and achieve their goals—whether at the provincial, regional, or national level.”

A former senior cabinet minister in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew brings over a decade of political, legal, and strategic leadership to Sussex. He has help roles of Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and Government House Leader.

Throughout his experience, Andrew led transformative policy initiatives in energy, innovation, and economic development, while advancing justice reform and regional collaboration. His cross-sector expertise spans natural resources, clean energy, law, and economic growth, making him a valuable advisor for clients across Atlantic Canada and beyond.

Contact Andrew to discuss how Sussex can support your business objectives.

The Liberal Comeback – How the Party Reclaimed Power in a Defining Election

As much as any signature policy achievement or Prime Minister it has produced, one thing the Liberal Party of Canada has been renowned for throughout it’s now over a century and a half long history is an ability to continuously survive, adapt and channel the national mood of the moment, and at times pull victory from the jaws of certain defeat.
