Paula Conboy Joins Sussex Strategy Group as Senior Counsel

TORONTO, July 15, 2020 – Sussex Strategy Group Inc. (Sussex) is pleased to announce that veteran energy expert and regulator Paula Conboy has joined the firm as Senior Counsel. Most recently Paula was Chair of the Australian Energy Regulator and she presently serves as a Board Member of the Energy Market Authority in Singapore. She has also served as a Board Member of the Ontario Energy Board, and is recognized internationally as an expert in related energy market and regulatory affairs.

Paula has over 25 years of experience as an executive in organizations or as regulatory Chair and board member. She is often called on to consult and advise executives and directors on leadership, corporate governance, political engagement and leading transformational change.

Paula is highly regarded for her ability to bring together disparate interest groups to work through technically complex and contentious issues. In her roles as Chair, adjudicator and corporate executive, she has extensive experience in organizational governance and building culture for effective performance.

With a strong background in the energy sector, both in Australia and Canada, Paula has worked with various organizations, associations, regulated and unregulated businesses, governments and ministerial departments to influence sustainable change and growth. Her areas of influence include policy development, strategic direction and critical thinking, resolving conflict within teams, improving communication across stakeholders, managing change, building resilience, improving people performance practices and team formation.

“I'm excited to join Sussex's strong team of energy experts and public affairs professionals to continue my work on energy market and regulatory issues,” said Paula. "The ongoing modernization of the Ontario Energy Board and other regulators across Canada is a good opportunity for Sussex’s clients to rethink their approach to engagement, regulatory proceedings, and the overlapping imperatives presented by policy, politics, and consumer needs.”

“Paula’s experience in Ontario and around the world will be a huge asset to our team and to our clients,” added Chris Benedetti, Principal, and Head of Sussex’s Energy and Environment Practice. “We are excited to welcome her to the team and are honoured to have Paula continue her outstanding career with us.”

These changes come only three weeks after a shuffle earlier in September that was prompted by the resignation of then Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark. This afternoon’s Cabinet shuffle was more unexpected, prompted by the abrupt resignation on Thursday of Khaleed Rasheed, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery, amid scrutiny of a Vegas trip with developers linked to the Greenbelt controversy.
