Sussex Strategy Group Enhances Ontario Government Relations Practice With Addition of Public Policy Expert Brian Zeiler-Kligman

Sussex Strategy Group, one of Canada’s premier government relations and strategic communications firms, is pleased to announce a significant new addition to the firm’s Ontario Government Relations Practice.

Brian Zeiler-Kligman joins the firm as a Senior Associate, Ontario Government Relations. Prior to joining Sussex, Brian was most recently the Vice President of Sustainability at Canada’s National Brewers, a major industry association. He has also served as the Director of Policy at the Toronto Region Board of Trade, after having worked as Director of International Policy and Arbitration at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Policy papers authored by Brian while at these organizations have been endorsed and incorporated into political platforms at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. In addition, Brian has published scholarly articles addressing issues in health, social and trade and investment policy. In each of his roles, Brian has advanced the agendas of the organizations and their respective members, having a keen understanding of the interface between business and government.

Brian holds a law degree from the University of Ottawa; a Masters Degree in International Affairs from Carleton University; and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the University of British Columbia.  He is a member of the Ontario Bar. Brian’s education and experience make him uniquely qualified to help Sussex’s clients to navigate legislative, regulatory and policy challenges when dealing with the Ontario government.

The Ontario Government Relations practice continues to be led by Joseph Ragusa, whose experience and depth of understanding of the provincial government has made Sussex a market leader in this area.

“The issues and challenges being faced by our clients are increasingly complex.  More and more, the resolution to these challenges resides in legislation and regulation, as well as in policy and political considerations,” said Joseph Ragusa. “Having Brian on our team will enable us to provide even more comprehensive government relations services to our Ontario clients.”

“I am excited about joining the Sussex team,” said Brian Zeiler-Kligman. “The firm’s reputation for delivering high quality government relations consulting services is well known. In today’s complex political and economic environment, governments and policy are being influenced by more factors than ever before. I am confident I can add value to Sussex’s clients by applying my experience and adopting the same results-oriented approach that I have used in my previous roles, and that the rest of the Sussex consulting team utilizes every day.”

Established in 1998, Sussex Strategy Group is a full service government relations, strategic communications and digital advocacy firm whose clients include corporations, industry and professional associations, labour organizations and non-profit groups. With proprietary offices in Toronto and Ottawa, and a network of affiliates in other Canadian provincial capitals, Sussex is independently, Canadian owned.

Ford Government Shuffle: What You Need to Know

This afternoon Premier Doug Ford announced another shuffle to his Cabinet. These changes come only three weeks after a shuffle earlier in September that was prompted by the resignation of then Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark. This afternoon’s Cabinet shuffle was more unexpected, prompted by the abrupt resignation on Thursday of Khaleed Rasheed, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery, amid scrutiny of a Vegas trip with developers linked to the Greenbelt controversy.

Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford announced a minor but significant shuffle to his Cabinet. These changes come just over a year since the Progressive Conservative’s re-election last June and amid a controversy regarding political interference around the swapping of land in and out of the Greenbelt.
