Webcast: Preparing for Federal Carbon Pricing in Ontario

Since the election in June, we have seen the new Ford government move swiftly on its campaign commitment to repeal the Ontario cap and trade program. Once Bill 4, The Cap and Trade Cancellation Act passes, Ontario will be officially without a price on carbon; in accordance with federal legislation passed in June, this means that the federal carbon pricing backstop will come into force in Ontario on January 1st, 2019. The provincial government has also launched a legal challenge to fight the imposition of a federal carbon tax, and has joined the existing challenge launched by the Saskatchewan government.

Until the decisions of these legal challenges are known, Ontario businesses may wish to better understand how the federal carbon pricing backstop works, and how it may affect them.

ICF and Sussex Strategy Group jointly presented this webinar on August 18th, aiming to explain how the federal carbon pricing system works, and what it could mean for you and your business. We invite you to listen to the presentation and let us know how we can help.

Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford announced a minor but significant shuffle to his Cabinet. These changes come just over a year since the Progressive Conservative’s re-election last June and amid a controversy regarding political interference around the swapping of land in and out of the Greenbelt.
