IESO Releases 2025 Annual Planning Outlook Demand Forecast

Overview

Earlier today, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released one component of the agency’s Annual Planning Outlook (APO), the 2025 Demand Forecast. The next APO is anticipated for Q1 2025 and will present additional forecasts on electricity demand, the supply and transmission outlook, and system needs for 2026-2050 while identifying what steps need to be taken to address emerging shortfalls.

The early release of an updated demand forecast is to ensure the industry is aware of the rapidly changing system based on a growing queue of load connections and the related increasing demand for electricity in Ontario.
